Discussion:
Favorite Arlington, MA eatery?

We've been home-hunting in Arlington and I'm starting to wonder if I've
been seduced by the array of eateries there. (After three years of
living on the South Shore where it's primarily variations on the
Chinese theme, it's not a big surprise.)

We've been to Punjab and La Buona Vita within the past week, and we've
already sampled Blue Ribbon and Rama Thai. (Big thumbs up for all!) Are
there any can't-miss places you'd recommend that we should try next?
(We're not snobby about "ambience," so holes-in-the-wall/dives with
great food are fine.)

Thanks for any and all recommendations!

I like Toraya for sushi. It's just outside of Arlington Center, near Blue
Ribbon. It's a small, hole-in-the-wall place, but the sushi is excellent
and the chef is very friendly. Someone on this newsgroup recommended it
(maybe Dan?), and it's quickly become my favorite sushi place.

Yeah, probably me.. I really like the place. The chef is very friendly and
very knowledgable. My only issue the place gets jocked on nights, and not just
weekends. I prefer to sit at the bar, so I will usually wait for a seat.

The specials board is a plus!

Toraya is very good. They also have some interesting appetizers.

I like Toraya for sushi. It's just outside of Arlington Center, near Blue
Toraya's wonderful. Nice folks and sushi is always of the
highest quality. He doesn't get a wide variety of specials
or anything, but I'll trade all the specials in the world
for high quality.

We ate at Tryst recently and were very pleased.

Bangalore Cafe (over towards the other end of Arlington,
near the Capitol theatre) is pretty good, too, though we
ate at Punjab recently and enjoyed it very much.

'Za' has some very interesting pizzas.

Breakfast at the Classic Cafe (in the Heights, near the
intersection of Mass Ave and Park) is wonderful.

Lots of other stuff. Arlington's a pretty good place to
eat.

Plain Bread alone for e-mail, thanks. The rest gets trashed.

I don't know.. I've had some unusual specials there before.
I've had ankimo, shirako, ika geso, katsuo tataki, and a few
others I cannot recall.

The Olive Branch, on Broadway in East Arlington. Excellent Middle
Eastern food, plus some Italian-ish "Mediterranean" dishes. I've heard
that their pizza is good, but we've never had it. (My 5-year-old son
decided, a couple of days ago, that we should go there for pizza, and it
turned out to be the evening they had run out of dough.)

On the rare occasions when I eat pizza, the place to go is Nicola Pizza.

We have always enjoyed Sweet Chile's.

We have recently visited Jimmy's Steer house a couple of times after a long
hiatus. We were pleased.

Olivio's near the Capitol Theater has really good Italian food. They
also have a 3-course early bird special that's a really good value.
