I must say that I might not be the best pastrami critic in the Boston area,
but my uncle owned a deli here in brookline for over 30 years, may he rest
in piece. When I hear people say there is no good pastrami in Boston, they
couldn't have tried the pastrami at Provisor's Delicatessen on Commonwealth
Avenue in Brookline diagonally across from "Wet Pets". Sorry Uncle Shelly!

Er, actually, this deli is in Newton.

Hi Dan,

I have been trying for years to get something with Provisor's name/logo on it so that I can take a picture for a Massachusetts delicatessen collage that I am working on and hoping to complete soon. Do you have anything or know who I can contact? I have 40 places right now, including out of business B & D Deli, G&G Delicatessen, Joan & Ed's, Rubin's, Cohen's (Nantasket) and Stage Delicatessen (Boston). Our collages historically preserve on one canvas each subject matter. To read some published articles about us, google Ed Sokoloff Collages. Oh yes, I had sliced hard salami at Provisor's many times, and I remember chewing it gave me sore cheek muscles.

Jack and Marions - I remember eating the Skyscraper Special (if I remember the
name correctly) which cost $3 in ~1958 and got my name on the wall. It and Kens
were open until 3am.

Hi Ed, no I have no material from Provizor's, and I probably only ate there once or twice. Did you check the archives at the Jackson Homestead: http://www.newtonma.gov/gov/historic/research/default.asp
