spike's junkyard dogs opened recently in davis sq and i got to try it
today. they were closed for a bit of the day as they had ventilation/ac
problems (no ac when i was in there) and no frying until later for the
same reasons. they are a chain based in cranston and offer burgers,
chicken sandwiches and large hotdogs.

i had a dog with mustard and saurkraut and another with chili and
cheddar. both were about $2.80 each and a decent deal. the dogs were
large (maybe 1/4 lb) and on a toasted bun which was almost sub roll like
vs the usual mushy dog rolls. decent tasting dogs and the chili was
ok. i would want to try the chili by itself to see how it is. the menu
look decent with many varieties of those main items and also salads and
various usual sides. here is a review page and their home page:

they seem to have 2 other MA places in allston and boylston/mass
ave. but the davis place is convenient as i am there regularly.
i will have to try the other menu items over time.

my major complaint (other than no AC but that should be fixed) was the
loud annoying music (dunno what it was, bad rock/pop?). that and the
heat sent me outside to finish my lunch. the little parking lot in front
of the diner has some benches which were nice in today's weather.

i doubt i could figure out what is hot in any year. the show is so big
(2500 booths) that i can just walk the whole thing if i skip most
booths. and i have to try to do some business as well by meeting new
distributors and such. but today will be a longer one for me at the show
so if i see anything worth reporting here i will try to post that.

well, i seem to be doing more cocoa business oriented stuff which is
good but it means i am not tasting as many booth samples as before. i
will try to remember what stands out for me.

Speaking of hot dogs, has anyone tried Top Dog in Rockport? I found the
place but only after eating a full lunch. It looked great but how is it
really?
