Howard Johnson's frozen fried clams?
(too old to reply)

After sitting down to a plate of crummy Shaw's brand frozen fried clam
strips, I once again find myself wondering what happened to the
superior Howard Johnson's brand clam strips that Star Market sold as
recently as last year. Are they still on the market anyplace?

And I wonder what happened to Betamax and Osbornes. The superior
product does not always win.

That said, I don't know the answer to your question, sorry.

A few moments of searching found franchiseassociates.com, which is
what's left of the HoJo restaurant chain. It says that the frozen
food is made by Fairfield Farm Kitchens in Brockton. A visit to
http://www.fairfieldfarmkitchens.com finds a lot of stuff about
Moosewood organic ready to eat (even more overrated than the
restaurant, which is saying something) but nothing about HoJos. Their
phone number is (508) 584-9300 so why don't you give them a call and
ask them if they still make HoJo's clams and if so, who carries them.

John

Not to bust 'em too much but ....CLAM STRIPS????????????? That is
almost sacrilege 'round these parts. C'mon bud, get with the program.
Make a pilgrimage,,, hit The Clam Box or Kelly's for some whole belly
clams and enjoy the salt air. About the only thing missing would be a
cold IPA to wash it all down with.

Heh. I'm glad somebody chastised me for mentioning clam strips, or I
would wonder if this were really New England.

Mentioning clam strips means my southwest Connecticut roots are
showing-- and as we all know, it's not quite New England down there. I
*can* enthusiastically recommend the Mansion Clam House in Westport,
Connecticut, but I can't promise that they don't root for the Yankees.

Yeah, after this weekend's warm weather I'm already planning the first
trip to Woodman's or Farnham's.

Try the Clam Box instead of Woodman's.

I noticed that Roche Bros. Carries HoJos Fried Clams as of yesterday. I saw
them in the Needham store.
